If you live in the country, you need to have a way to get water to your house. The way to do that is to have a well. But the water doesn't just spray out of the well into your house and plumbing system. That's where you need to have a pump. The pump will live in your well and pump the water out of the well and into the plumbing of your house. But when the pump stops working, you aren't going to get the water you need, and you are going to need to have someone come out to your house, check it out, and repair it. You can do a couple things to see if you can get your pump working again, or at least figure out what the problem is.

Check the Power

If your well pump has stopped working, the first thing you should do is to make sure that it is getting power. There are a few places you can check to see if the pump is getting power. The first place you should check is your circuit breaker. If the switches on your circuit breaker are all on, you still may want to flip off the circuit that has the well pump on it, let it sit off for a moment or two, and then flip it on. Sometimes that can "reboot" the circuit and get everything working again. If you've done that and still aren't getting power, you should check the area where the well is. If the pump is plugged in instead of being hardwired, you want to check to see if it is plugged in. If you get power to the well, but then the power immediately shuts off, leave it alone until you can get a professional to look at it because there's a serious issue.

Leaks

If you are getting power, but you still aren't getting water, check to see if you have a leak anywhere along the line. Look for mushy or muddy areas. That can be a good sign that there's a leak in between your well and your house. In that case, the pump is still working, but a broken pipe keeps the water from getting to your faucet.

If you are worried about a broken well pump, you need to call someone to look at it. You can do a few things in order to see if you can get it working, but if you are concerned, wait to see until you can get a plumber to check it.
