Moving into a home with a pool means having an automatic focal point during the summer months. When the weather is warm, you and your loved ones will be able to take a dip at your leisure. If you are a new pool owner, you will need to learn how to care for the pool so that the water system is healthy and so that you do not have to deal with a clogged pool that becomes a swamp. For new pool owners, here are three things that you should have a plumber do when first starting up your pool.

Drain the water and clean out the pumps

The water pump to the pool will be just as important as the pumps to the rest of the plumbing in your home. The pump will need to pump clean water to your pool and jacuzzi or hot tub. When first moving into the home, have a plumber drain the water in your pool and take a look at the pump. Be sure that the pump is operational and has no signs of rust or decay that can cause the to stop operating at any point. If the pumps need cleaning, have the plumber clean out the pump and take a look.

Take a look at the jets

The jets of the pool and the hot tub system can become stopped up and clogged by any type of debris or even towels that are left outside and slip inside of the pool. Once the pool has been drained, have the plumber take a look at the jets. If the jets are clogged, they will need to be cleaned out or replaced while the pool is drained. Replacement should happen before refilling the pool, as once you get started for the season, the replacement will take several days and can be costly when draining and refilling the pool several times.

Inspect the pipes

Pool plumbing, like house plumbing, must be put together properly if the system will run without leaks. A pool leak can be larger and more costly than a leak in a sink or other product. Ask your plumber to go over the pools plumbing pipes to ensure that they were properly put together. If any attachments are incorrect, have the pipes refitted and put together again. Since these pipes are likely shorter, yet larger in length than regular pipes, this process will take less time. The quick process will allow you to shock and refill your pool to get ready for the sunny months.
